Abu Dhabi, the distinguished capital of the UAE, is preparing to unveil a spectacular display of light and artistry across its cityscape. Manar Abu Dhabi, an expansive city-wide light art exhibition, is all set to transform the archipelagos and mangroves of the UAE capital into a luminous spectacle. This remarkable event is scheduled to grace the city from November 15, 2023, to January 30, 2024.

A Captivating Voyage Of Lights In Abu Dhabi

Manar Abu Dhabi promises to captivate visitors with a stunning showcase of newly commissioned artworks, site-specific light sculptures, projections, and immersive creations. These pieces are crafted by a blend of local and international artists. Part of the Abu Dhabi Public Art initiative, which commenced earlier in 2023, Manar Abu Dhabi, meaning “lighthouse” in Arabic, aspires to accentuate the emirates’ natural beauty.

The inaugural edition of Manar Abu Dhabi carries the theme “Grounding Light” and has been expertly curated by Reem Fadda, Director of Abu Dhabi Culture Programming, Director of the Cultural Foundation, and Artistic Director of Public Art Abu Dhabi. Collaborating as a co-curator is Alia Zaal Lootah, Manar Abu Dhabi Curator.

Engaging Artistry

Over 35 artworks have been specially commissioned for Manar. They will represent more than 13 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Palestine, Tunisia, and the UK, among others. Renowned artists such as Ahmed Al Areef Al Dhaheri, Alaa Edris, Asma Belhamar, Ayman Zedani, Carsten Höller, Groupe F, and many other incredible talents contribute to this dazzling collection.

The captivating artworks will grace prominent locations across Abu Dhabi. The list includes Lulu, Saadiyat Island, Yas Island, Jubail Island, Al Samaliyah Island, and Fahid Island. Coastal areas such as Corniche Road, Mina Zayed, and the Eastern Mangroves will also come alive with brilliant installations.

Manar Abu Dhabi promises to provide both residents and visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to engage with these awe-inspiring artworks. Immerse yourself in the transformative power of light. The art journey spans an impressive 2.3 kilometres from Al Samaliyah Island to Saadiyat Island, concluding at Lulu Island.
