Recently, Bengaluru’s ever-thriving pub scene received a jolt when Virat Kohli’s One8 Commune and three other pubs on MG Road received an FIR for operating beyond the 1 AM time limit. When a cop entered One8 Commune after receiving complaints of loud noise from residents, he noticed that customers were being served food and drinks at 1:20 AM. After legal action was taken, hotels and pubs demand an extension of service hours till 2 AM.
Bengaluru Hotel Association Demands Restaurants & Pubs To Operate Till 2 AM
As a Bengalurean, if I ever party with Mumbaikars and Delhiites, I hit my peak Cinderella moment at 1 AM. The party’s done. It’s time to go back and hit the bed. The reason for this I’d attribute to Bengaluru’s time limit of 1 AM for pubs and restaurants. Even Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s golden boy, Virat Kohli’s One8 Commune overlooking Chinnaswamy Stadium wasn’t spared from the time limit recently. Just like several other pubs on MG Road.
A report by The New Indian Express stated that Bengaluru’s hotel association has written to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Bruhat Bangalore Hotel Association (BBHA) wrote to the Deputy CM to seek an extension of the closing time of restaurants, bars and pubs by an hour in BBMP limits. Currently, all restaurants, pubs and bars in Bengaluru must shut down at 1 AM.

PC Rao, President of BBHA stated to TNIE that around 8 to 10 months ago, they requested 24/7 timings for all hotels especially those located near airports and hospitals. They are now demanding an increase in the current timings to 2 AM. And they are doing this in order to serve customers who often travel late at night. The association also wrote to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman about their suggestions and expectations for the upcoming Union Budget.

They have requested all licenses must be brought under single-window clearances to ensure smooth functioning and speedy processes in the hospitality and service industries. Moreover, they demand that Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences must be made perpetual (one license for life). They also want the public performance Licence to be abolished as it is not required.
