After Serving Naga Food From Home Kitchen For 6 Years, Oya’s Umami Opens Its First Restaurant In Goa

From humble beginnings to owning a restaurant, Oya’s Umami is the story of a passionate home chef turned restaurateur. For nearly six years, Oya’s Umami existed as a home-based business, starting with a single home order and growing into a popular cloud kitchen, pop-up events, and community gatherings. Today, the dream has taken on a new life in a space they can truly call their own.

Located in the heart of Tonca, Miramar, Oya’s Umami Café opened its doors on April 24th. This humble but vibrant space welcomes guests with a warm atmosphere and an exciting menu inspired by Naga flavours. This café feels even more special because a home chef-turned-restaurateur made her dream a reality, starting her culinary journey with home-based orders and pop-up events. The team’s focus on Naga-inspired recipes, from smoked meats to pickles, brings bold, earthy flavours to Goa in a way that feels both approachable and fun. Oya’s Umami is the result of years of passion and experimentation in the kitchen, now brought to life in this cosy space.

Oya’s Umami specialises in Naga-inspired recipes and offers a rich, aromatic dining experience. The menu features unique, satisfying dishes that highlight authentic and bold flavours. One of the highlights of the café is the weekend specials, where the restaurant explores regional ingredients and brings them to life in unexpected ways. Their recent Bamboo Shoot Fiesta (a weekend special) featured dishes that showcase bamboo shoots in various forms, from fermented and pickled to chutney and broth. The special menu included slow-cooked bamboo shoot curries with your choice of pork, chicken, or mushrooms, crispy spicy dry-fry pork with bamboo shoot, and even a fresh, vegetarian option with broccoli & tofu.

And that’s just the start. The café also serves a selection of regular favourites, including Smoked Pork Belly Bao with a sweet and Spicy Anishi Sauce, flavour-packed Ramen with Juicy Pork Dumplings and Black Sesame Gravy, and comforting Kimchi Fried Rice. There’s also a hearty, comforting dish of pork trotters with beans and bamboo shoots. Savour their prawns in bamboo shoot sauce, which offers a rich seafood twist. However, these are just a few of the many dishes Oya’s Umami offers to satisfy every palate.

If you are in Goa, it’s definitely worth a visit to experience the flavours that have won over the local community and beyond.

Psst. Oya’s Umami is a small, intimate space, so reservations are highly recommended.
