According to a post which was recently shared on Instagram by the official handle of MMMOCL, the metro will operate the additional trips from 7th to 11th October 2024. The trips will be between Gundavali and Andheri West, two key stations on the network.
Twelve extra trips will be added, with six trains running in each direction. This boost in service will bring the total number of daily trips to an impressive 294, significantly enhancing the metro’s capacity during the festival period.
One of the most notable aspects of this extension is the later running times. The last metro will depart from both Andheri and Gundavali stations at 12:30 AM, providing a much-needed transport option for festival-goers returning home in the early hours.
A Bid To Meet High Demand Of Festival-Goers
To maintain efficiency and reliability, these late-night services will operate with a 15-minute headway, striking a balance between frequency and operational feasibility. This decision by MMMOCL demonstrates a commendable understanding of the community’s needs during Navaratri.
The nine-night festival, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga, is known for its late-night gatherings, dance performances, and religious observations. The extended service is expected to bring multiple benefits. It will provide a safe and reliable transport option for those participating in late-night festivities, reducing reliance on private vehicles or less regulated modes of transport.
