AI is powerful, so much so that some experts believe it could completely change our lives. While it comes with many positive aspects, it can also be quite misleading. That’s exactly what happened to an elderly Malaysian couple. As per a report by Times Now, the couple came across an AI-generated video showing a reporter visiting an amusement park in a town called ‘Kampung Kuak’. In the clip, the reporter is seen interviewing people about their experiences, riding a cable car, and exploring a restaurant, all of which look completely real. A user named @RakeshSFNYC also shared a still from the fake video on X.
Excited after watching this video, the couple decided to take a 3-hour journey from Kuala Lumpur to the state of Perak to visit this new place in town. On June 30, after checking into a hotel, they asked a staff member about the location. Shocked, the staff informed them that no such place existed and that they had likely been tricked by an AI-generated video. At first, the couple did not believe her. But later, the elderly woman even said she wanted to sue the reporter shown in the fake video. Many social media platforms have now taken down the AI-generated clip.

Fictional Channel And Imaginary Attractions
The video showed a fictional news channel called ‘TV Rakyat’. It began with a map pointing to the fake town and included visuals of a fake amusement park complete with cable cars, scenic rides, museums and other tourist attractions. The video also showed interviews with visitors, all of whom were AI-generated. It displayed restaurants and other attractions as well.
As per a report by Deccan Herald, the couple had checked into a hotel in Gerik, Perak, and asked a worker if she had ever taken the cable car ride at ‘Kuak Hulu’. The staff thought they were joking at first, until she realised they were serious.
This incident is not just bizarre, it is also worrying. We often come across AI-generated videos online that look as good as real ones. Cases like these remind us to stay alert. We should verify what we see to avoid falling for such kind of tricks.
