The purpose-built facility, spanning 86,000 square feet, will be situated at Bengaluru Airport City through a partnership with the Bengaluru Airport City Limited or the BACL. Set to commence operations by mid-2026, the campus will feature modern classrooms, fully-equipped laboratories and expert trainers.
The BMTO will be strategically positioned near Air India’s new 12-bay Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul or the MRO facility. This facility is scheduled to open in early 2026. This initiative marks a significant step in Air India’s transformation journey. It aims at creating a robust aviation ecosystem whilst ensuring self-reliance in maintenance engineering capabilities.
The programme is designed to meet the airline’s expanding fleet maintenance requirements. Students will receive specialised training aligned with industry standards and Air India’s specific needs.

To maintain continuity in AME education and workforce development before the new facility opens, Air India will implement an interim Cadet AME programme. This will be in partnership with established institutions in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
Students will have the opportunity to pursue a concurrent bachelor’s degree through university collaborations. This will enhance their academic credentials and career prospects. The BMTO represents Air India’s commitment to developing skilled professionals for aircraft maintenance and engineering operations.
By combining classroom learning with hands-on experience at the MRO facility, the programme aims to create a pipeline of qualified maintenance engineers. This is to support the airline’s growing operations whilst contributing to India’s aviation sector development.
