Ajman Municipality took to its official account on X to announce that it has banned single-use plastic bags in the emirate. This ban has come in from January 2024 and the announcement of the decision mentions that now single-use plastic bags will not be used in any of the shopping centres or sales outlets. Here’s all about it.

Ajman Municipality Announces Ban On Single-Use Plastics

Effective from January 2024, single-use plastic bags will no longer be allowed at shopping centres and sales outlets in Ajman. This decision was notified to the public through an official post by the Twitter handle of the Ajman Municipality. As it happens, the law comes in accordance with Ministerial Decision No. (380) of the year 2022. This is regarding the regulation of single-use plastic products in the emirate’s markets!

As it happens, it’s also in compliance with Federal Law No. (2) of the year 2018 that is concerned with integrated waste management. In fact, it is also a part of the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment initiative, which is aimed at making the UAE free from plastic bags.

Dubai Has Also Banned Single-Use Plastics

As it happens, the decision comes after recently Dubai also banned single-use plastic items in the emirate. Yes, this decision was taken by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. As it happens, under the ruling, single-use plastic bags and products have been banned in the emirate and this has been implemented since January 1, 2024. In fact, this ban also applies to disposable products and recycled ones as well! As such, even Sharjah has banned single-use plastic bags.
