Alpine Skier From Kashmir Is Making India Proud By Qualifying For Beijing Winter Olympics

Arif Mohammed Khan, a 30-year-old alpine skier hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, has qualified for the Winter Olympics 2022 to be held in Beijing. Reportedly, he is the first Indian to bag a quota place in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Kashmiri photographer and snowboarder Farhat Naik wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations Arif. Kashmiri skier Arif Mohammad Khan qualifies for Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, Arif hails from North Kashmir’s Tangmarg are .Arif is the only ski racer from India who qualified for Beijing Winter Olympics .” Resharing Naik’s post, former chief minister of J&K Omar Abdullah tweeted, “Congratulations Arif, well done for qualifying for #Beijing2022. We will all be rooting for you.”

Arif Hails From North Kashmir’s Tangmarg

Arif lives in Tangmarg situated in the northern part of Kashmir. He had earlier represented India in many international events and world championships. Secretary General of Indian Olympic Association, Rajeev Mehta also praised Arif for grabbing the position and wrote, “Arif Khan qualified for Beijing Winter Olympcs in ski and snow board .Congratulations to our sports minister Mr Anurag Thakur ji and Arif Khan.” Arif secured his position in the Beijing Winter Olympics in the qualifying event held in Dubai.

2022 Winter Olympics Will Be Held In February In Beijing

The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing is scheduled to be held from February 4 to 20. The event will include sports like biathlon, bobsledding, curling, ice hockey, luge, skating, skiing and more. Around 109 events in 15 disciples will be included. This will be officially the twenty-fourth Olympic Winter Games. By qualifying for it, Arif is making the whole of India proud. J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has said in a tweet the J&K sports council will ensure that Arif gets world-class training facilities by the best-in-class coaches and support staff.
