Amidst the majestic embrace of the Himalayas lies a cinematic utopia. Here, the magic of cinema merges seamlessly with the urgency of environmental consciousness. Welcome to the enchanting world of the All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF). Picture this: a crisp December breeze carrying whispers of change, nestled in the serene landscapes of Mukteshwar, Uttarakhand. From the 1st to the 10th of December, ALT EFF orchestrates a symphony of visual narratives, conversations. These immersive experiences redefine the very essence of a film festival.

ALT EFF 2023 Invites You To A Cinematic Utopia 

The All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF), is an innovative initiative intertwining cinema, nature, and conversation, cultivating an intimate rendezvous with the environment. Since its inception in 2020, ALT EFF has been a beacon for fostering dialogue around nature, the environment, and climate change through the lens of cinema.

The festival is now in its 4th glorious year. It boasts a stellar jury lineup featuring esteemed personalities like Oscar-winning filmmaker Kartiki Gonsalves, David Holmgren, co-originator of Permaculture, and Satyajit Bhatkal of Satyamev Jayate fame, alongside Dr. Mike Pandey, India’s eminent environmental filmmaker.

Showcasing over 60 films from 50 countries, ALT EFF innovatively combines in-person screenings across Indian cities with a vibrant virtual leg.  The one-of-a-kind film festival will treat the audience across 25+ cities in India with over 40 screenings. From Munsiyari, Kochi, and Bhopal to Ajmer, Kolkata, and Surat, the in-person screenings will be an exceptional experience.

An Enthralling Blend Of Cinema & Environmental Consciousness

Adding glitz to the festival’s advocacy is the presence of actress-producer Alia Bhatt as its advocate, amplifying the festival’s mission. The cinematic repertoire this year is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Films like “Deep Rising,” narrated and produced by Aquaman actor Jason Momoa, delve into the critical link between the deep ocean and Earth’s sustenance. “We Are Guardians,” produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Fisher Stevens, magnifies the struggle of Indigenous forest guardians in the Amazon Rainforest. “

Among these, “Dear Future Children” and “Against the Tide” spotlight young activism worldwide and the plight of Indigenous fishermen in Mumbai, respectively. “The Leopard’s Tribe” captures the battle to protect Aarey’s trees and the Warli tribe’s home. And “No Water, No Village,” narrated by climate activist Dia Mirza, unveils the stark reality of climate change in the Spiti Valley and Zanskar.

Immerse Yourself In Films, Talks, And Nature

This year, the festival embraces a novel venture, inviting participants to a 2-night, 3-day sojourn at Chirping Orchard. Here, amidst the Himalayan embrace and serene forests, guests will check out a curated amalgamation of events. They can enjoy film screenings from the festival’s selection and engaging talks by prominent environmentalists. They can also go on guided walks and treks led by seasoned naturalists. This immersive experience is set to unfold its wonders from the 9th to the 11th of December.

ALT EFF not only promises captivating films but also crafts an experiential escape in Mukteshwar. The weekend extravaganza is a harmonious blend of cinema, riveting conversations, and communion with pristine nature. The program’s meticulous curation ensures an enriching experience.

  • Day 1 will inaugurate with “Into the Ice,” followed by discussions and a delightful dinner around a crackling bonfire.
  • Day 2 ventures into a village hike, breakfast, film screenings, and water issue discussions. It will wrap up with an enchanting dinner with live music.
  • Day 3 will conclude with a hike to Mukteshwar Temple, breakfast, and a final session with National Award-winning filmmaker Akanksha Sood Singh.
