Priyanka Chopra had once revealed to Vogue that she never leaves her home without hot sauce. And that’s a very desi-approved thing to do. We Indians can’t fathom meals without chillies and masala. It’s very easy for us for our taste buds to reject a dish for its “bland” nature. That’s where pepper and hot sauce come to the rescue. A menu from an Indian restaurant in the USA has gone viral for serving dishes with varied spice levels. There’s something palatable for the Americans’s sensitive taste buds as well as Indians’s chilli-numbed tongues.

Jay Upadhyay, the founder of The Power Popcorn, a gluten and vegan popcorn brand in the USA reacted to a hilarious reel. The entrepreneur took to the Instagram handle @thepowerpopcorn to share a snapshot of a menu of an Indian restaurant in the USA. On the menu, there’s a description of the famous Chicken Tikka Masala. It’s described as a dish where tender chunks of chicken are marinated in yoghurt and cooked in a mild tomato-based gravy. The dish comes with fluffy rice.

Below the description of Chicken Tikka Masala is the option for customers to choose the spice level. The options are American mild, American medium, American spicy, Indian mild, Indian medium, Indian spicy and Indian very very spicy. In the caption, Jay confesses that ‘Indian spicy’ has him fighting for his life.

Netizens Demand Such Menus All Across The USA

Well, these spice options while strange at least accommodate the diverse palates of Americans and Indians. It makes spaces for their varied spice tolerance levels. Netizens recollected similar menus at other Asian restaurants in the USA. @owenstewartjr recollects asking for spicy food at a Thai restaurant. The server said “No” and served him medium spiced dishes instead.

@jackmcdonnald writes how his local Indian restaurant has “Bengali India Super Hot” spice levels. @haydonist wishes more restaurants in the USA adopt this concept. The Instagrammer is tired of getting served “white-people spicy food.”
