Air India, IndiGo Cancel Dubai Flights Amid Flood Situation At The Airport

Amid the bad weather conditions and flooded airport runways in Dubai, many Indian airlines have decided to cancel operations in the city for the time being. Airlines like Air India, IndiGo, Vistara, Air India Express, and SpiceJet have cancelled flights to Dubai till April 18. There have been several cancellations from all major Indian flight operators since April 16. This is mainly due to the heavily flooded Dubai Airport runway.

Air India, SpiceJet, and IndiGo took to their official X (formerly Twitter) account to share the news of flight cancellations to Dubai. They have offered alternate flight operations and full refunds to passengers on these flights. This halt in operations will heavily impact the services of these airlines. For example, Air India operates 72 weekly flights from various cities in India to Dubai. All these flights are currently cancelled due to the bad weather conditions in the UAE.

Dubai’s Bad Weather Affects Air Travel

All flight operations in Dubai have faced significant disruptions since April 16. This is because the United Arab Emirates experienced its heaviest downpour since 1949. It has caused more than a thousand flights to be cancelled in Dubai so far and more are expected since the runway is still flooded. However, the airport authorities have been able to resume some flight operations in Terminal 1 of the airport, much to the relief of the passengers.

Not just in Dubai, air travel has been affected in areas including Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat. The local authorities have requested passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

This bad weather situation in Dubai is very concerning. We hope the weather improves soon and people are able to go back to their normal lives!
