83-year-old K Kamalathal Ji, lovingly known as ‘Idli Amma’ ( Idli Mother) won the hearts of netizens across Indis for selling delicious, fluffy idlis for just ₹1. By keeping her prices extremely low, Idli Amma from Tamil Nadu ensures that migrant workers in Tamil Nadu are well-fed. In fact, she has been carrying on this daily routine of preparing idlis for thousands of people from her home in Vadivelampalayam for the past 30 years. Business tycoon Anand Mahindra was so touched by her gesture that he decided to gift her a house so she can carry on her selfless services.
Anand Mahindra Promised To Gift Home To Idli Amma In 2021
In 2019, after getting to know about Idli Amma’s inspiring story, industrialist Anand Mahindra offered to invest in her business. As she still used a woodfire stove to prepare steaming hot idlis He wanted to get her an LPG gas cylinder. Later after Anand Mahindra and his team enquired. They realised she needed a new workspace or home to carry on her daily operations. So, Anand Mahindra announced to build her a home. He shared a tweet in 2021 indicating that Idli Amma will soon have her own home.

Idli Amma Steps Into Her New Home On Mother’s Day
On Mother’s Day, May 8, 2022, K Kamalathal Ji aka Idli Amma stepped into her new home gifted by Anand Mahindra. A video shared by Mahindra’s team shows Idli Amma inaugurating her own home, praying to Lord Krishna and stepping into her new abode, where she will carry on her selfless service to provide fresh hot idlis to thousands of people daily at just ₹1. Mahindra expressed gratitude to his team for carrying out and completing the construction of Idli Amma’s home in time to gift it to her on Mother’s Day.
