The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are celebrating a big win. It’s not just about one achievement of the world’s largest underwater flag, but also a second record of the tallest human stack underwater. The Union Territory is using such underwater events to highlight its natural beauty and attract tourists from around the world. Read to know!

Andaman & Nicobar Islands Set Guinness World Record For Tallest Human Stack Underwater

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, a Guinness World Record was made for tallest human stack underwater. This achievement was taken place at Swaraj Dweep, earlier known as Havelock Island. According to Mid-Day, a total of 14 people took part in this challenging underwater formation. It included Lieutenant Governor DK Joshi as well. 

The team successfully created a 22.3-metre-long human stack beneath the sea. They remained underwater for around three minutes while maintaining the formation and no their safety were not compromised. Officials confirmed that the attempt followed strict safety rules and was carried out with trained divers and technical experts. The entire operation was carefully planned and executed with coordination between multiple departments.

World’s Largest Underwater National Flag 

The day before tallest human stack, an another record was made of world’s largest underwater national flag. As per Mid-Day, the flag measured approximately 60 by 40 metres. Divers and multiple agencies worked together near the same island location to complete this large-scale underwater display.

The Lieutenant Governor, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, personally participated in the Saturday event as well. His involvement highlighted the administration’s strong focus on promoting the islands through such global initiatives.
