Many videos are going viral online from Putluru in the Rayalaseema region, Andhra Pradesh, where devotees celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi. But when they arrived at the Chitravathi River for the visarjan, they saw that the river had completely dried up. Instead of water, the riverbed was covered with sand.
Having no other option, the devotees could not perform the usual immersion ritual. So, they eventually kept the Ganesh idols on the dry riverbed. The sight shocked local residents, as the river once had plenty of water. Poor monsoon rainfall has caused water levels to drop in many parts of Andhra Pradesh. This has affected rivers, lakes and other water sources.

After people in Putluru performed visarjan in the dry riverbed, the Rayalaseema region received very heavy rainfall, as per The Telugu Daily. It was the heaviest rainfall in a decade in the region. The Ganpati idols kept on the dry riverbed were showered with fresh rain, which many saw as a divine miracle.
For the farmers who performed the pooja, it felt like their prayers had finally been answered. The rainfall brought hope after a long period of water shortage. After the rain started, devotees reached the location and performed aarti of the idols.
