Aqua Line 3: Mumbai Metro’s BKC–Worli Stretch To Open For The Public From 10 May

The opening of the Aqua Line 3 extension from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Worli will transform Mumbai’s metro network. This new underground stretch marks a key milestone for Mumbai’s transport and opens to the public on May 10, 2025. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister inaugurated this phase of Aqua Line 3 on May 9, 2025. It allows commuters to travel between two major business hubs in under 40 minutes. This journey time is much shorter than surface transport.

Key Features of Aqua Line 3’s New Stretch

The new BKC to Worli stretch covers 9.77 km underground and includes six stations: Kotak BKC, Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, and Worli. Urban development experts believe it will ease road congestion and offer a fast, reliable option for daily commuters. UrbanAcres reports that Aqua Line 3 will span 33.5 km and change how Mumbaikars commute. It will connect key residential and commercial hubs like SEEPZ, MIDC, and the airport terminals.

The opening of this stretch will also reduce travel time between Aarey and Worli from 90 minutes to just 39 minutes, a remarkable improvement for daily commuters. With its advanced underground infrastructure, the Aqua Line 3 aims to offer a smoother and more comfortable ride, even during peak hours. This addition complements the operational 12.69 km stretch that connects Aarey to BKC, which was launched in 2024.

Aqua Line 3 is not only a key advancement in public transport but also aligns with Mumbai’s sustainability goals. The line uses energy-efficient systems, such as regenerative braking and low-energy lighting, to help reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality. As reported by UrbanAcres, the line’s modern infrastructure supports Mumbai’s aim to become a zero-emissions city while offering an eco-friendly solution for urban travel.

In addition to its environmental benefits, Aqua Line 3 is expected to drive economic growth along its route. The development is already boosting real estate interest in areas near the new stations, especially in traditionally underserved locations like Dharavi and Sitaladevi. This increased connectivity is expected to stimulate both commercial and residential property developments, providing new opportunities for businesses and residents alike.

Impact On Mumbai’s Transport Landscape

Experts in urban mobility view the Aqua Line 3 extension as a game-changer for Mumbai’s transport system. It will ease pressure on the city’s congested roads and offer an efficient, high-speed alternative to traditional travel. Commuters travelling between the central business districts of BKC and Worli are expected to rely on the metro as their primary mode of transport.

This new underground metro stretch marks a shift towards sustainable transport, addressing Mumbai’s growing population and urban challenges. UrbanAcres reports that the Aqua Line 3 project demonstrates the city’s commitment to enhancing public transport for residents’ well-being.
