Bike Taxis May Soon Be Introduced In India
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has requested states to introduce bike taxis. According to Moneycontrol, he announced this idea on Wednesday at the launch of the government’s ‘Suraksha’ pilot programme in Maharashtra. According to him, bike taxis can create livelihood opportunities for over 8 crore people.
However, it has been left to the states to decide whether bike taxis can be operated or not. He also said that states can frame their own rules, set conditions and charge fees for operating such services. But yes, it can be a great opportunity for two-wheeler owners.

Different Rules In States For Two-Wheeler Ride
The Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025 have created a framework for bike taxis. As per Moneycontrol, under these rules, states can allow ride-booking companies to use private, non-transport motorcycles to carry passengers. However, each state can decide its own rules, conditions and fees for such services.
Karnataka’s High Court allowed motorcycles as transport vehicles, but the state challenged the ruling in the Supreme Court over safety and insurance concerns. Maharashtra made official rules for bike taxis in 2025. These rules explain how bike-taxi companies can operate, what permits they need, what conditions they must follow, and also cover e-bikes and scooters.
The government is also planning a new road safety rule. Under this system, drivers will get negative points for breaking traffic rules. If someone repeatedly violates traffic rules, their driving licence could be suspended or cancelled.
