On Wednesday in Rioja, a wine area in Spain hosted The 50 greatest vineyards award ceremony. Spain’s Rioja region is known for exceptional Tempranillo-based wines. Moreover, these wines elegantly balance fruitiness, oak influence, and extended ageing.

The UK-based media company William Reed puts out this yearly list. According to the official website, almost 500 wine aficionados, sommeliers, and tourism specialists from across the world participate in the selection process. Additionally. the vineyard must be open to the general public. Other factors involve a full experience of visiting the estate, including the tour, tasting, atmosphere, and, most importantly, the wine.

Catena Zapata, a family-run business in Argentina, topped the list. Here are the nine others:

  • Bodegas de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal, Rioja, Spain
  • VIK, Cachapoal Valley, Chile
  • Creation, Walker Bay, South Africa
  • Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Bordeaux, France
  • Bodega Garzón, Maldonado, Uruguay
  • Montes, Colchagua Valley, Chile
  • Schloss Johannisberg, Rheingau, Germany
  • Bodegas Salentein, Uco Valley, Argentina
  • El Enemigo Wines, Mendoza, Argentina

Moreover, some vineyards achieved wine excellence awards. Rippon in New Zealand was named Best Vineyard in Australasia (the areas of Australia, New Zealand, and nearby islands), while Château Mercian Mariko Winery in Japan was named Best Vineyard in Asia.
