PM Narendra Modi is visiting Assam this week. The visit has prompted the suspension of jeep safari and elephant rides in Kaziranga from March 7 to 9. These services will remain closed in the Kaziranga range of Kohora during the PM’s visit. He is expected to visit the Kaziranga National Park on March 8 and 9. His visit also included inauguration and laying the foundation of several development and infrastructure projects in Assam. Read on to know more.

Jeep Safari & Elephant Rides Suspended In Kaziranga Ahead Of PM’s Visit

Ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam later this week, jeep safaris and elephant rides have been suspended in Kaziranga. This suspension will be observed from March 7 to 9. The PM is expected to visit Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam on March 8 and 9. As per the PMO, PM Modi is expected to arrive at the national park on the evening of March 8 and will stay there at night.

The Prime Minister will be visiting the Kohora range of Kaziranga. He is likely to indulge in a jungle safari and elephant ride during his 2-day visit. The PM’s visit also coincides with the Kaziranga National Park’s golden jubilee of its national park status this year. The park received its national park tag in February 1974.

As per the notice put out by the Divisional Forest Officer, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, “The jeep safari and elephant ride in Kaziranga Range, Kohora, will remain closed to visitors. Jeep Safari will remain closed to visitors on March 7, March 8, and March 9 – forenoon and elephant ride will remain closed on March 8 and March 9.”

What The PM Modi’s Schedule In Assam Looks Like

After his stay in the national park, PM Narendra Modi will travel to Jorhat. He plans to unveil the bronze statue of world-renowned Ahom general Lachit Barphukan there. This statue is 125 feet high and will be inaugurated on March 9. Post that, the PM is also expected to be part of the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony of the 5.5 lakh houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He will also lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar Medical College during his visit. After that, he will interact with people at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat.
