Lakshman Lokpal Temple Reopens For Devotees

The ancient Lakshman Lokpal Temple has reopened for devotees on May 22, 2026. This temple is located near the Sri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara in Chamoli district. As per Free Press Journal, the reopening ceremony of the temple took place at 11:15 AM with traditional rituals, marking the beginning of the summer pilgrimage season. The temple sits on the banks of the sacred Hemkund Lake at an altitude of 4,329 meters and is one of the highest temples in the world dedicated to Lord Lakshmana.

What Is The History Of This Temple?

According to beliefs and stories from the Ramayana, Lord Lakshmana, who is Lord Ram’s younger brother, meditated at this place. It is said that he recovered here after being seriously injured during the battle with Ravana. Devotees believe that Lakshmana regained his strength at this very location, which is why this temple is considered very sacred and spiritually important in the Hindu tradition.

Every year, the Lakshman Lokpal Temple opens at the same time as Hemkund Sahib. After the doors open, thousands of pilgrims come from different parts of the country to visit. Though the trek is challenging, the view on the way makes it all worth it.
