In January, Coldplay’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ Tour in India marked a significant cultural and economic moment. According to a report by EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow, their concerts have generated a staggering ₹641 crore in economic impact. Coldplay performed in Mumbai and Ahmedabad and their concerts have helped put India on the global live entertainment map.
Coldplay’s Ahmedabad Concert Impact On Indian Economy
On January 26, Coldplay performed at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, before an audience of 1.34 lakh, marking the largest turnout in the band’s history. More than 222,000 people attended the band’s concert in Ahmedabad across two days. According to the report, the concert made an estimated direct economic impact of ₹392 crore to Ahmedabad’s economy. This historic event has helped position both Ahmedabad and India on the global concert circuit and unlocked new opportunities for artists, organisers, investors, and also brands.
Proving to be more than just a musical delight for Indian Coldplay fans, this tour also contributed ₹72 crore in GST revenue to the government. Since more than 86% of attendees travelled from outside Ahmedabad to witness this musical spectacle by Coldplay, they spent on accommodation, in-city travel, flights, trains, food, beverages, and more. All this helped boost the city’s economy significantly. Many F&B venues near the stadium reported an over 40% increase in footfall during the concert period.

Waste Management & Community Support During The Tour
The EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow report also showed that Coldplay’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ concert in Ahmedabad also led to indirect contributions to the economy. This was mainly in employment, mobilizing a vast and diverse workforce. The massive concert required seamless collaboration between the event organisers, partner agencies, local authorities and administrative
bodies. More than 15,000 people worked together to organise the two-day concert in Ahmedabad.
Coldplay is known for their sustainability initiatives during live concerts and their Ahmedabad concerts were no different. As per the report, 34,000+ kg of waste was diverted away from landfills, which is 95% of the waste generated from the concert. Single-use plastic bottles were completely eliminated and 20-liter water jars and rice husk glasses were used instead. Over 1L bio-degradable, rice husk cups were freely distributed for hydration. Also, approximately 70% of LED bands were returned and reused for subsequent shows.
It is amazing to see how Coldplay’s India concert has helped unveil the country’s potential as the ultimate concert venue for more artists.
