When summer arrives, we all get excited about eating mangoes. Among mango varieties, we are familiar with types like Alphonso, Kesar, Badam, and many more. But there are still some rare varieties that most of us don’t know about. One of them is the Miyazaki mango, which is considered one of the most expensive mangoes in the world. Interestingly, an Ayodhya farmer has now successfully grown this expensive variety. Read on to know more!

Ayodhya Farmer Grows Miyazaki Mango

In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, farmer Om Prakash Singh from Ashrafpur Tonia village has successfully grown the Miyazaki mango, considered one of the most expensive mango varieties in the world. As per News18, this is a Japanese variety, and the farmer has cultivated it in his home orchard. With this effort, the region is now slowly gaining recognition for rare fruit cultivation.

At present, the tree produces only around eight to ten mangoes, but the farmer expects the yield to increase in the coming years as the plant fully matures. And here’s the interesting part: each Miyazaki mango weighs around 250 grams.

What Is The Cost Of This Mango Variety?

This Miyazaki mango variety originally comes from Japan and is known worldwide for its rarity, premium taste, and very high market value. In India, it can sell for nearly ₹1.5 lakh per kilogram, while in Japan, its price can go even higher, reaching around ₹2.7 lakh per kilogram. One kilogram usually contains only four to six mangoes because each fruit is large and heavy.

Another interesting fact about this mango is that it stands out for its deep red to purple colour when ripe. Usually, common mangoes turn yellow or green.

Not only in Ayodhya, a farmer from Maharashtra’s Pune district and former politician Farooq Inamdar also has an interest in cultivating rare mango varieties on his farm. He grows around 120 mango trees on just half an acre of land. Out of these, about 90 trees belong to international varieties, while 30 are Indian varieties.
