The entire world was taken by surprise by the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the Baltimore region of the United States of America. The Baltimore Bridge collapse took place on March 26, Tuesday. A cargo ship named Dali crashed into the bridge which led to its collapse. All the crew members aboard the cargo ship were Indians and they issued a mayday warning before colliding. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this shocking incident.

A Singapore-flagged cargo ship named Dali was headed to Colombo in Sri Lanka. There were a total of 22 crew members aboard the ship and all of them were Indians, including the pilots. If reports are to go by, the ship experienced a power issue shortly before the collision.

The pilots on the ship alerted the authorities about the issue and called a mayday. This allowed authorities to immediately stop vehicles from accessing the bridge, thus saving their lives. This minimised injuries and loss of lives.

The cargo ship had a total capacity of 10,000 twenty-foot equivalent units or TEU and, at the time of the collision, was carrying a total of 4,679 TEU. All the crew members of the ship are safe and accounted for.

President Joe Biden Praises The Crew For The Warning

According to an article recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, President Joe Biden praised the crew members for issuing the warning. This ended up saving a lot of lives.

He also praised the officials who took immediate action between the Mayday call and the collapse of the bridge. As of now, a total of six people have been presumed dead in the incident.
