Whether you choose to wear quirky colourful masks or the simple sober ones but wearing masks is a must. This is considered an important safety precaution as it helps one keep away from breathing in any harmful virus. However, many people seem to care less about wearing a mask. And now the Bangalore government is taking them to task. How? Well, Bangaloreans are now given no choice. They must either mask up or get ready to pay a fine of ₹200.

 Fine Of ₹200 For Not Wearing Masks

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be imposing a fine of ₹200 on those who do not wear masks in public places. Previously the fine was Rs.1000 but Civic Chief B.H. Anil Kumar has issued a revised order in this regard on Tuesday. In the order, Mr. Kumar stated that the fine amount of ₹200 for the first and subsequent offence had been stipulated as per the government notification of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Regulations, 2020. The health inspectors of the municipal corporations may levy a fine of ₹200 from any person who is not wearing a mask covering their mouth and nose, apart from maintaining a social distance of a minimum of one metre from other persons.

Bangalore Most COVID-19 Affected City In Karnataka

As per an earlier order issued by the civic chief, the fine was ₹1,000 for the first violation and ₹2,000 for the second and subsequent violations of not wearing mask in public places, along with other offences, such as improper disposal of masks, spitting, littering, urinating and other kinds of public nuisance. The civic body started levying fines on May 2. Over the past three days, the BBMP raked in a total of ₹2.39 lakh from residents. On the first day, it collected ₹51,700, ₹98,350 on Sunday and ₹89,455 on Monday.

Karnataka currently has a total of 671 reported coronavirus cases. Among the total people infected by this deadly virus, 331 have recovered and 29 have passed away till date. Bangalore has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the state with 101 confirmed infections. This makes it all the more necessary for Bangaloreans to wear masks in public and maintain social distancing to contain the spread of the virus.
