In Bengaluru, important train stations are preparing for a significant makeover under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. It is a ground-breaking initiative announced by the South Western Railway (SWR), Bengaluru’s railway landscape is about to undergo a stunning metamorphosis. 

At an exciting press conference in Bengaluru, the distinguished Bengaluru Divisional Railway Manager, Yogesh Mohan, unveiled plans to revitalise all 15 of the division’s stations. The audacious aim? To transform these stations into dynamic, contemporary urban hubs that pulse with life.

With an astounding total cost of Rs 372.13 crore, the eagerly awaited redevelopment extravaganza is set to get a major boost with the upcoming inauguration or foundation stone laying ceremony. As per Deccan Herald reports, Mr. Yogesh Mohan has confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will honour the occasion on February 26 through a video link.

Under the visionary leadership of India’s Prime Minister, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to revitalise and revolutionise the numerous railway stations that dot the vast Indian Railways network. The programme maintains a long-term perspective. It also combines a variety of improvements to propel stations to the forefront of modernity.

Spectacular Makeover Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

This journey of transformation unfolds in two distinct phases. During the first phase, the focus is on improving station accessibility, strengthening waiting areas, improving restrooms, and planning the installation of elevators and escalators as needed. This phase will also encourage cleanliness, provide free Wi-Fi, and set up kiosks to display local products through projects like ‘One Station, One Product’. Supporting PIS, designing executive lounges, creating areas for business meetings, and beautifying landscapes are also part of this phase. 

According to Times Now News, the second phase will focus on modernising station buildings, seamlessly integrating stations into the city on both sides and advancing multimodal connectivity. This phase will also create “Roof Plazas” where needed.

Among the distinguished stations getting a resplendent makeover are Bangarpet, Doddaballapur, Kengeri, Malleswaram, Ramanagaram, Channapatna, Hindupur, Krishnarajapuram, Malur, Tumkur, Dharmapuri, Hosur, Kuppam, Mandya, and Whitefield.

Furthermore, several infrastructure projects are already underway or in the pipeline to complement this ambitious endeavour. From roads under bridges to overpasses, these initiatives underscore the commitment to modernization and progress.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme certainly promises improved infrastructure and a reimagined travel experience.
