Bengaluru Airport: Roof Of Terminal 2 Leaked Due To Heavy Rainfall; Over 10 Flights Rerouted

It has been 4 days since Bengaluru received the first spell of heavy rainfall this year. Ever since that spell, the city has continued to get drenched with massive downpours, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. The weather has turned so bad that it started to disrupt regular flight operations. In the past few days, we have heard updates about many flight delays and cancellations and changing air routes from the Bengaluru airport.

Heavy Rains In Bengaluru Leaked The Roof Of Airport’s Terminal 2

Most parts of the Karnataka capital witnessed incessant rainfall on Thursday night. Not only this change in weather wreaked havoc with waterlogging, falling trees, and intense traffic congestion but it also created some serious problems at the Kempegowda International Airport. Following the heavy downpours on Thursday, the glimmering and swanky Terminal 2 of the Bengaluru airport reported a leakage in its roof.

Videos surfacing on social media platforms show how a part of the roof faced a leak while it rained continuously outside. Not only damaging the ceiling of the terminal but incessant rainfall disrupted scheduled flights and also created quite a problematic situation for passengers waiting to board flights from the Kempegowda International Airport. Not just departing from runways, landing at the airport was a concern last night.

Operating flights in between intense winds and rainfall was indeed a horrifying task. A Bangalore International Airport Limited spokesperson stated that a total of 13 domestic flights, 3 overseas flights, and 1 international cargo were diverted to Chennai on Friday, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

Traffic Jams Were A Major Issue Last Night

Manoj Sharma (@Maneetsharma007) shared a video on last night’s heavy rainfall.

Several roads leading to the Bengaluru airport were jam-packed last night due to waterlogging in many areas. Commuters on their way to the airport or even any other places had to remain stuck on the road due to long queues of traffic congestion. Soon, Bengaluru traffic police started to decongest several roads in the city and continue the vehicular movement.
