Bengaluru: Kempegowda Airport Rolls Out Electric Taxi Fleet; Initiative For Sustainable Travel

We are witnessing the harsh impacts of global warming and climate change this summer. Unfortunately, this is just the tip of the iceberg as the effects will worsen with time if we do not take impactful steps. At a time when sustainability is becoming almost a necessity and a must in our everyday lives, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda Airport launched a fleet of electric taxis for an eco-friendly travel option.

Kempegowda Airport In Bengaluru Introduced Electric Taxis

There is an extreme need to be cautious about each step we take every day to save Mother Earth from getting harmed and hope for a greener and healthier planet in the future. Recently, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) joined hands with Refex eVeelz for the launch of these new electric taxis. This spectacular initiative was announced during the celebrations of World Environment Day at the Bengaluru airport on June 5.

This important step for a greener tomorrow was celebrated with pomp and glory at the airport premises. Mr Hari K. Marar, MD & CEO of BIAL, and Mr. Ravi B.P., Principal Secretary, Department of Forest, Ecology, and Environment, GoK attended the event. They discussed the significance of being environmentally aware. Mr Hari K. Marar also planted a sapling, according to the Bengaluru airport. He planted it “as a commitment towards a sustainable future”.

Passengers can book these taxis conveniently both online and offline. Either they can get electric taxis at the airport taxi stands or they can simply book one using a mobile application named ‘BLR Pulse’, according to a report by Moneycontrol. These services are available on both Terminals 1 and 2. The charge for the first 4 km of the car ride is a minimum of ₹100. The distance after 4 km gets calculated counting ₹24 for 1 km.

During the World Environment Day celebrations on Wednesday, ‘Women-Only Airport Taxis’ were also inaugurated. The launch of these cars is also a result of working with Refex eVeelz. Only female drivers will drive these cars. The best way to spot these taxis in the crowd is by seeing a pink-coloured ‘X’ on them.
