Food delivery apps have now become a part and parcel of our busy lives. But what if this app is used for a sinister purpose to keep tabs on a woman’s whereabouts? Isn’t it beyond concerning and won’t it leave one feeling unsafe in one’s own home? A Bengaluru-based professional took to LinkedIn to share a concerning incident where her friend was stalked by an ex-boyfriend through a food delivery app.
Bengaluru Man Stalks Ex-Girlfriend Through Food Delivery App
Rupal Madhup shared on LinkedIn that she heard the most traumatising Bumble story over the weekend. She revealed her friend started dating a man whom she presumably met on the dating app, Bumble. The man happened to work at a food delivery app. Things seemed fine between the couple until they broke up for reasons best known to them. But Rupal said that’s when things started getting weird.
Apparently, after the breakup, the man started getting into full stalker mode. He apparently flagged his ex-girlfriend’s account in the company’s system. So, this meant he had access to his ex-girlfriend’s real-time delivery locations. And he used it to keep tabs on her and monitor her movements. He started messaging his ex-girlfriend asking her about her whereabouts and her enquiring about her food delivery orders.
Initially, she dismissed it as her ex-boyfriend being weird. But his unusual inquiries about her weekend getaways and late-night orders persisted. That’s when she connected the dots. She realised that the Bengaluru professional was using her data from a food delivery app to stalk her. Rupal ended the LinkedIn post acknowledging that data is the new electricity. However, she stressed that data in the wrong hands is also one of the most dangerous weapons.

LinkedIn Users Say It’s Not Fictional; Data Breach Happens
The LinkedIn post garnered over 201 comments, a few of which were mixed. Gaurav Behl pointed out the strict privacy policies followed by most tech companies. So, he called it highly unlikely for an individual employee to use customer data for his personal motives.
However, LinkedIn user Deeksha Singh, who works in data, pointed out that that situation is very much possible. Singh stressed that people working in data teams have access to user data.
