The tour and travel company, Thomas Cook, was recently directed to pay a fine of ₹3 Lakh to a man who pressed charges against the company. The directive was given by the Additional District Consumer Redressal Commission in Bengaluru. A man complained that the tour he got from the company was lacking on a number of fronts. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular case.

According to an article which was recently published by Bar and Bench, B Narayanappa, the Commission President, and other members noted that the service was, in fact lacking. They subsequently directed the company to compensate the man.

The man booked four tickets with the company for the tour of the United Kingdom and Europe last year in May. The tour was supposed to be 14 nights and 15 days long. However, the man said that it was shortened to 12 nights and 13 days.

Additionally, the man stated that the company skipped the main leg of the tour which was London. He also said that the company did not provide visas and flight tickets on time. Furthermore, he also claimed that the stay and food provided were inadequate.

What Did The Company Say About These Allegations?

In its defence, Thomas Cook said that it only facilitates visas and does not have any say in the release of passport dates and visas. That decision lies with the Embassy. They approved the Visa for London on the evening of May 24, 2023. 

The flight to London was scheduled for the morning of the same day. By the time the Visa was issued, the London leg was already done. They had to skip it as arrangements for the rest of the tour were already made.

The man initially asked for compensation of a total of ₹4 lakh in addition to ₹2 lakh for mental agony and ₹50,000 for litigation fees.
