Flipkart Likely To Test Food Delivery In Bengaluru, Pilot Launch May Happen By Mid-2026

Flipkart, one of our go-to e-commerce brands, is now stepping into a new industry, and we can’t wait to see what they offer! Before a full rollout, the company plans a pilot launch of food delivery services in Bengaluru between May and June 2026. Scroll down to know more!

Flipkart Plans To Enter The Food Delivery Industry

This year, we will soon witness Flipkart in the food delivery space, and let us tell you, it’s not the first time this company has entered this industry. According to The Economic Times,  two years ago, the company explored the category through the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), similar to earlier plans by Ola and Paytm. However, those plans did not progress beyond initial discussions.

In India, the food delivery service has very few competitors and is dominated by Zomato and Swiggy. And now, new players are emerging. Rapido has launched its Ownly platform, and several smaller companies are operating through ONDC to target niche demand. The online food delivery market in the country is currently valued at around $9 billion. It is expected to grow to nearly $25 billion by 2030, according to brokerage firm Jefferies.

Flipkart’s ‘Minutes’ Services

Flipkart is expanding its services beyond online shopping. It already runs a quick commerce service called “Minutes,” which has more than 800 dark stores. The company plans to open even more stores. These new services, including food delivery, could help Flipkart grow and get stronger before it goes public with its planned stock market listing.

As per Business Standard, Rapido’s Ownly platform has grown across Bengaluru after a six-month test run. It’s designed to be easy for restaurants—no commission or signup fees, and customers pay just a flat ₹30 delivery fee. Created with the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), Ownly helps restaurants avoid high commissions and limited access to customer data. It’s like giving restaurants more freedom while keeping deliveries simple for customers.
