If you are a Bengalurian or have frequently visited Bengaluru, you might know that anytime one thinks of authentic South Indian food, Samrat restaurant tops the list. But after serving people with masala dosa, rava idli and many other delicious dishes for years, Samrat restaurant is shutting its doors. Yes, the iconic Samrat restaurant located inside Chalukya hotel will be taking its last order on September 25. 

Bengaluru’s Popular Samrat Restaurant To Shut Down

For the last 45 years, Bengaluru’s Samrat Restaurant has been serving badam halwa, rava idli, masala dosa and many such authentic and lip smacking dishes to its customers. It is located inside the Chalukya hotel near Basaveshwar Circle . The restaurant is so popular that the Basaveshwar circle is known as Chalukya circle. Samrat is near Vidhana Soudha and has been a frequent spot for politicians, government employees, bureaucrats and tourists since 1977. It serves about 3000 customers everyday and on weekends the number reaches 5000! People don’t mind waiting for tables! The reason behind this restaurant shutting down is said to be the completion of the lease agreement.

Mini Samrat Restaurant To Open Soon

Samrat restaurant is not just a restaurant for Bengalurians but an emotion. The restaurant is the go-to place for everyone from students to office employees. People would come here after office and order their favourite dish like a vada, badam halwa with coffee or tea and feel relaxed. The legendary restaurant was visited by people even after their retirement to reminisce about the good old days. The restaurant which will close down after serving one last time on September 25 will result in the loss of jobs for around 80 to 90 people. Mini Samrat, a miniature version of Samrat, will soon be opened in Vasanth Nagar next to Ambedkar Bhavan.

So long, Samrat! Netizens are saddened too! People can’t imagine their lives without this iconic eatery. But we’re glad a mini Samrat is cropping up soon!
