Every time we plan to travel domestically or even internationally, there are a couple of airlines that come to our mind all the time. Among them, one of the most prominent names has to be IndiGo for lakhs of passengers. We often hear about the airline seeing a rapid growth in passenger demands and numbers. Now, to fulfill the demand and expand, the airline did something noteworthy. On Thursday, IndiGo ordered 30 A350-900 widebody aircraft. Without any doubt, this is one of the biggest current news in the Indian aviation industry.
IndiGo Placed An Order For 30 A350-900 Aircraft With Airbus
The largest airline in India surprised many with its recent humongous order of 30 A350-900 planes. According to several reports, IndiGo is likely to spend about $4 to $5 billion for this epic deal with Airbus. Now, the airline is buying widebody aircraft to add to its flight fleet for the first time since the beginning. It presently operates 2 B777 aircraft by taking a lease from Turkish Airlines, according to a report by Business Standard.
Recently, IndiGo shared some necessary information about this massive deal with the European manufacturing company. According to the Press Release, the deliveries of the aircraft are likely to commence in 2027. Apart from the widebody planes, IndiGo now has the Purchase Rights for 70 Airbus A350 family aircraft. This Purchase Rights, at its discretion, is for any possible future needs only “under certain conditions”
The definite configuration of the planes has not been decided yet. It will be finalised later. This deal between IndiGo and Airbus will help strengthen their strategic relationship.
What Will Be The Impact Of This Order?
Apart from influencing their strategic relationship splendidly in depth, breadth, and size, this deal also has a crucial role to play in several aspects. A total of 30 widebody planes in the fleet will bring the biggest opportunity to build strong air networks connecting differnt places around the world. Looks like the airline has plans to operate long-haul flights to different countries and continents as widebody aircraft have a higher range and bigger fuel capacity.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said how this beginning will shape the airline’s and Indian aviation’s future.
