BMC To Award ₹500 To People In Mumbai Who Report Potholes

Mumbaikars are no strangers to potholes. We struggle with them every monsoon. Every rainy season sees us fighting and cursing out the BMC on Twitter over issues with potholes and people even losing their lives because of it. So, the BMC decided to turn into an incentive game of sorts. Report a pothole to the BMC and if it doesn’t get repaired within 24 hours then you will be the proud owner of ₹500.

How Do You Go About Scoring Your ₹500?

With this new incentive, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation hopes to cover all the potholes across the city with the help of vigilant citizens. But don’t go hunting potholes already for there is a catch in the scheme. You can only report a pothole if it is one foot long and three inches deep. Basically, a pothole that can cause some significant damage. And of course, the other catch is that you can only get your hard-earned money if the pothole isn’t repaired in 24 hours. So you do have to give them a day before you go ahead to claim your cash prize.

The scheme has come into play right after BMC launched its ‘MyBMC Pothole Fixit’ app which allows citizens to report potholes that come to the eye.

The BMC has asked all of its seven deputy municipal commissioners to ask their ward staff to get cracking on this pothole situation immediately. They wanted to have all the potholes fille before they started the contest in November. Now that the month has begun, you are eligible to report any pothole in your vicinity as long as it matches the criteria.

But the whole situation has also caused discontent among the corporators in the city who are calling it a waste of time and a waste of tax-payers money. Will you be keeping an eye out for the potholes?
