The Ganga River is highly revered in the Hindu religion. Many people from far and wide come to Varanasi with the sole purpose of taking a dip in its holy water. There are also boating rides available on the Ganga River for those who have a penchant for the activity. However, recently, certain limitations have been put in place for boating on the river. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about these new limitations.

According to an article which was recently published by India TV, officials have now restricted the timings for boating on the Ganga River. From now on, boating on the river after 8:30 PM will not be permitted.

The telos behind this move is to increase safety. If reports are to go by, any boatman who is found flouting this regulation will have to face legal consequences from the authorities. These include but are not limited to getting an FIR lodged against them.

Keeping these things in view, vigilance near the river has been increased as well. An increased number of police personnel will patrol near the river to ensure that all boatmen are complying with this new regulation.

But Why Was This Decision Taken?

As per the statement made by Mithilesh Yadav who is the Water Police In-Charge, drowning incidents in Ganga has increased recently. Hence, to combat this issue and to safeguard people against drowning, this step had to be taken.

Four teams will be deployed. Two of them will be from the National Defense and Rescue Force or NDRF and the other two will be from Jal Police. A boatman found on the river after 8:30 PM will have his boat seized.

Varanasi is one of the biggest spiritual tourism destinations in the country. Hence, to ensure the safety and security of tourists and devotees alike, such measures need to be taken.
