A British Airway pilot made a mistake which made the airline pay a heavy price. The pilot accidentally activated the emergency slides in the plane. This caused a significant disruption of the flight schedule and the airline will now have to pay £50,000 for his mistake. He was immediately taken off flying duties. According to an article which was recently published by The Sun, the mistake happened owing to the absentmindedness of the pilot. The incident took place on flight BA886 from Heathrow to Romania which was scheduled to take off at 9:55 AM on Saturday.

However, the pilot wanted to pass a few documents to the ground crew. In order to do so, he had to disarm the plane door before opening it but he forgot the disarming part. This activated the inflatable slide used for exit during emergencies.

Following his blunder, emergency personnel rushed to gate 24E. As per a source cited in the article, the pilot was met with swift consequences as he, being the captain of the flight, should have been aware of the safety protocols and regulations of the plane.

This mistake by the pilot ended up costing the airline £50,000. In addition to this, the flight was also delayed and it ended up departing at 1:15 PM. The pilot was also taken off flying duties owing to this blunder of his.

The airline also stated that they regretted the inconvenience caused to the passengers. They arranged an alternative aircraft with another pilot for the passengers to ensure that their journey continued without further interruptions.
