According to TasteAtlas, an experiential travel online guide for traditional food, India’s Butter Garlic Naan is the seventh-best dish in the world in 2023.

A classic Indian flatbread, butter garlic naan is one of the most well-liked varieties. Flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and yoghurt are the ingredients. After the dough is baked in a hot tandoor oven, the golden naan is removed and covered with minced garlic and butter or ghee.

On the global list, not only butter garlic naan, but there are three more dishes that have made India proud by being ranked in the top 50. The other three dishes are Murgh Makhani, Tikka, and Tandoori.

After butter garlic naan being placed at number 7, Murgh Makhani, which last year was the third-best chicken dish in the world, is now at 43rd position. India’s Tikka and Tandoori are at the 47th and 48th positions, respectively.

It is often known as butter chicken abroad, is a mainstay at the majority of Indian restaurants, and is likely the most well-known of all Indian meals. The dish’s inception dates back to the 1950s in Delhi, when Kundan Lal Gujral started Moti Mahal, a restaurant.

The restaurant’s cooks, not realising they had unintentionally discovered one of the most beloved meals ever and a potential global delicacy, blended leftover marinade fluids with tomatoes and butter and then stewed the tandoor-cooked chicken in it.

Boneless meat, typically chicken, is sliced into smaller pieces and marinated in yoghurt with traditional Indian spices including turmeric, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, chile, garlic, and ginger to make the meal known as Indian tikka. The meat is cooked in a tandoor, a traditional cylindrical clay oven, over charcoal.

The most well-liked Indian cuisine is prepared over a roaring fire in what is known as a “tandoor”. It is an open-top, cylindrical clay oven that runs on charcoal or wood. Tandoori foods usually have a bright red colour or a yellow colour, depending on what’s in the marinade. Additionally, classic flavours for tandoori foods include ginger, garlic, coriander, cayenne pepper, and garam masala.
