Gone are the days when buyers could trust shopkeepers while purchasing products from their stores. Now, it is the responsibility of every consumer to be well aware of everything that they are buying and also check their quality before paying the bill. The problem of counterfeit paneer seems to be on the rise in many places.

Authorities found about 1,300 kg of synthetic paneer recently. They took the amount and threw it away at a place along the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway, according to a report by The Times of India. To make the synthetic product believable, they use palm oil to add a shiny texture.

To keep ourselves healthy and only consume good-quality food products, we need to be very cautious while checking every item. After buying paneer from stores and returning home, follow a few steps to be ensure of what you are actually about to cook and eat. • Take a paneer cube and try to gently press it. If it starts crumbling, it has a major chance of being fake because of the addition of milk powder.
  • Take a pan filled with water and add panner to it. Let it boil. Add some soybean powder to it and wait for some time. If you see the paneer turning a bit reddish, it’s high time to throw it away.
  • You can even chew a small portion of paneer to identify its quality. The sour taste and rubbery texture mean the paneer is likely to be adulterated.
