Canadian residents with dreams of reuniting with their parents are in for some fantastic news. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced plans to send out a wave of invitations for the Super Visa to sponsor parents for permanent residency.

Starting May 21st, 2024, IRCC will be inviting approximately 35,700 potential sponsors from the pool of interest to sponsor forms submitted back in 2020. This move aims to facilitate long-awaited family reunions and comes after a period of backlog due to the pandemic.
The invitations will be sent out over a two-week period, and those who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020 should keep a close eye on their email for updates from IRCC.
- Allows parents/grandparents to visit for up to 5 years at a time, extendable while in Canada.
- Valid for up to 10 years with multiple entries.
- For those who submitted in 2020 Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will send invitations via email over two weeks.
Eligibility And Details
- Canadian citizen/permanent resident/registered Indian
- Provide appropriate documentation.
- Multiple entry visa: Valid for up to 10 years.
- Long stays: Each visit allows a stay of up to 5 years.
- Compare to visitor visa: Different from a visitor visa with a maximum stay of 6 months.
- Eligible hosts: Only biological or adopted children can apply. (Registered Indians exempt)
- Registered Indians inviting their parents/grandparents only need the Certificate of Indian Status
- Financial requirements: Hosts must demonstrate financial ability to support parents/grandparents.
- Parents/grandparents must have valid health insurance.
This announcement by IRCC is a welcome step towards reuniting families in Canada. The Super Visa provides a path for parents and grandparents to spend quality time with their loved ones in Canada.
