Canada To Relax Testing Norms For Indian Passengers

Travel between India and Canada will become easier soon as Ottawa will likely relax restrictions Covid-19 testing requirements. Currently, the travel advisory for India limits pre-departure testing to a single laboratory located at Delhi airport.  Unvaccinated travellers or those inoculated with unapproved vaccines will need to undergo quarantine in a government-approved hotel for three days until they get the result of their COVID-19 test.

Fully-Vaccinated Travellers Can Skip Quarantine In Canada

Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada said in a tweet, “Fully vaccinated travellers allowed to enter Canada may be exempted from federal quarantine and day 8 testing starting July 5. Only vaccines approved by the Government of Canada will be accepted.” Canada has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Astra Zeneca/Covishield, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines till now. Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin or Russia’s Sputnik V are not approved by Canada.

Rules For Unvaccinated Travellers

Unvaccinated travellers or those inoculated with unapproved vaccines will need to undergo quarantine in a government-approved hotel for three days until they get the result of their COVID-19 test. On the eighth day, they need to take a second test and complete a self-isolation of 14 days.

Canada has banned direct flights from India till July 21. Those travelling to Canada via connecting flights will need to show negative COVID-19 results of tests to be conducted at the final point of departure before entry to the nation.
