The monsoon season has entered most parts of India in full swing with heavy rainfall, storms, and more. Though the rainy season is a major relief from the last few week’s intolerable temperature and scorching heat waves, it is also turning out to be a huge problem in many places. Massive downpours in some districts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday led to the blocking of the bustling Chandigarh-Manali Highway. Here’s what happened!

Floods & Landslides Blocked The Chandigarh-Manali Highway Yesterday

The sudden unfortunate incident occurred in Khotinallah near Aut in the Mandi district, according to a report by The Telegraph. Massive rainfall on Sunday evening resulted in flash floods and landslides as well. And this is why the Chandigarh-Manali highway was blocked, even with hundreds of people waiting in the traffic. This National Highway-21 is always a major busy road creating significant road connectivity between Chandigarh and Manali. With so many tourists visiting the hilly cities of Himachal Pradesh, there were so many cars and vehicles standing at the spot due to the floods and landslides.

According to a report by Tribune India, most vehicles were stranded between Mandi and Kullu. Massive traffic was witnessed on this highway as hundreds were travelling between these places.

Authorities Began The Repairing Process Soon

The Mandi administration officials stated that the restoration project has been initiated on Sunday itself. Work started in full swing to clear the affected stretch. The officials shared they have asked commuters to not drive on this road to travel to Mandi till the proper work is completed. Since the accident took place in the evening, the reconstruction works turned out to be extremely hard due to the darkness.

Different places in Himachal Pradesh are experiencing rainfall for some time now. Exploring the hill stations and mountains in the monsoon season always comes with a risk of landslides, slippery roads, and more.

Reports state that an alert has been issued in different parts of Himachal Pradesh. The alert is for massive downpours in some places for the next two days; 27 and 28 June. Also, there are chances of thunderstorms as well.

Both locals and tourists of the state need to stay very safe and attentive at such times.
