Chef Vikas Khanna: I Tried To Put The Best Indian Food On The Table That I Possibly Could

Celebrity Chef Vikas Khanna is one of the most humble personalities we have ever interviewed for our Tere Gully Mein episodes. His exceptional knowledge of food and cooking skills took him to new heights with multiple Michelin-starred restaurants, directorial films, books, TV shows and many more successes. On this Tere Gully Mein, Vikas revealed to our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, that he strived to put Indian cuisine in the best way possible to the entire world. Watch the video linked below.

Vikas Khanna Focused On Making The Best Indian Food

We relished yummy Indian Chinese and North Indian cuisine at Chef’s Platter in Bandra and talked about Vikas’s successes and failures with restaurant openings. He shared that he was extremely saddened to hear one of his first restaurants received a single Michelin star instead of two. He said, “Mera dil toot gaya.”

Vikas continued that he tried to explain to the non-Indians working with him at the restaurant that obtaining one Michelin star for a restaurant that specialises in Indian homecooked food is an incredibly honourable thing. He remained true to himself and told us, “I was trying to put good Indian food on the table as possible!” We 100% agree with you Chef!

Continuing on the same topic, Vikas told us that getting one Michelin star for an Indian restaurant is equivalent to getting two Michelin stars. He emphasised the next big thing about receiving that one star was, “My one Michelin star is going to inspire thousands of chefs to start dreaming. This for me is like winning a thousand Michelin stars!” He had the biggest smile on his face when he said this.

Chef Vikas then compared gaining a Michelin star to winning an Oscar!  He said, “It’s like an Indian actor winning an Oscar,” and Kamiya agreed. He set an example for so many aspiring chefs in our country who want to make it big and spread Indian cuisine around the world. 10 points for this, Chef!
