It looks like Chennai’s battle with rain will continue for the next few days as well! On October 17, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) lowered the red alert for the city to an orange alert. Now, as per the latest updates, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘nowcast rain alert’ for several districts in Chennai. Read on to know more about it.

IMD Issues Warning For Heavy Rainfall In Chennai

Due to incessant rainfall in the last few days, several areas in Chennai observed a flood-like situation. While there were reports of the weather improving in the city recently, it looks like residents in several parts of the city will have to prepare for heavy rainfall again! IMD has issued a ‘nowcast rain alert’ for five districts in Chennai. As per the forecast, “isolated heavy rainfall” will likely be seen in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on October 18, 20 and 21.

According to a Mint report, heavy rainfall will be observed in the Poonamallee, Sholinganallur, Thiruporur, Vandalur, and Tambaram areas of Chennai. The meteorological department issued an orange alert in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu for October 18.

Reportedly, weather conditions in Chennai are forecasted to be ‘partly cloudy with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm’ and similar conditions will be seen till October 21. As per Mint, the maximum temperature in Chennai will be 34°C and the minimum temperature will be around 24°C.

Civic Workers Clear 14,447 MT Rain Debris In The City

The continuous downpour in Chennai over the last few days caused a lot of garbage to be collected on the roads. According to a DT Next report, civic workers were able to clear out about 14,447 MT of rain debris from across the city between Monday and Wednesday. As per reports, the waste consisted of beds, mattresses, garden waste and mixed waste that was collected after the continuous downpour in the city.

Around 12,000 civic workers, despite the rain, worked to clear out the garbage from the streets. It is to be noted that the torrential rain in the city had caused flood-like situations in many areas.
