AI-generated images, and AI in general, have stirred up a stormy debate since last year. Many ethical concerns have been raised over the use of AI-generated images. However, the issue with them is not merely limited to ethics. Visually, too, AI-generated images can be… unsettling, to say the least. Recently, people started noticing bizarre and other-worldly dishes on Instacart. These range from hot dogs with multiple buns to meat with weird textures. Take a look at the photos below!

A Reddit thread showed the bizarre and alien images of some dishes with items that truly no human has seen in real life. Some examples were posted on the Reddit thread. Salted chocolate pretzels had weirdly shaped brown stuff that looked like human excretion.
The image for Grilled Hot Dog featured a hot dog bun inside a hot dog bun which is very unsettling to observe. Even something as simple as a chocolate chip cookie looked weird. The chocolate chips looked unnaturally shiny and uninviting.
The worst was probably the hot dog stir-fry which featured an alien slice of hot dog which seemed to have seeds inside. It seemed like a mix of a tomato and a hot dog.

According to an article which was recently published by the Business Insider or BI, Instacart is now discreetly deleting these images and is replacing them with generic stock images. They have mentioned that some of the images they use are generated by AI so user discretion is advised.
Now, however, they are in the process of changing these images. The Reddit thread is filled with people who are unsettled by the images. Many even mentioned that the images discouraged them from buying from their platform at all.
