Covid 19: 19 Indians Stuck At Dubai International Airport For Three Weeks

Nineteen Indians have been locked down at the Dubai International Airport for the past three weeks. Most of them were in transit when India suspended inbound flights. On March 21 they tested negative for Covid 19 and were then moved to Dubai International airport. They have been stuck in DXB ever since 25 March.

Among them, Arun Singh – an IT professional at a UAE bank. holds a UAE resident visa. However, Arun cannot exit the airport as the country has suspended all visas for the time being. Arun also mentioned he has been eating and sleeping ever since he was stuck and is desperate to go home.

Another passenger- Deepak Gupta is stranded in the airport since 18 March. Deepak is worried about his pregnant wife in Delhi and is desperate to go back to be by her side. Like most others, Deepak had a transit in Dubai, while returning from Europe. Unfortunately, India had imposed a ban on all incoming passengers from Europe.

What Else?

Meanwhile, on other news the UAE is mulling on reviewing labour relations with countries not responding to evacuation requests. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) is looking into revising labour ties with nations refusing to respond to the UAE’s efforts to repatriate private sector expatriates who wish to return home. The move comes after a number of nations failed to respond to requests by their nationals to return home.
