tbsp. (Tablespoon), the contemporary American-Italian kitchen from The Yum Yum Tree Group has landed in Mumbai after building a loyal following in Delhi and Gurgaon, setting up its Pizzeria & Pastaria at Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel.

tbsp. Just Brought Its Wood-Fired Pizzas & More To Mumbai & We’re Not Splitting!

The brand’s whole identity is built around the comfort of eating straight out of someone’s kitchen. And it shows the moment you walk in the open kitchen, putting the wood-fired oven front and centre. So watch your Neapolitan pizza get hand-stretched, topped and fired. The Mumbai menu leans into 12-inch Neapolitan pizzas alongside a Pastaria of handmade pasta shapes. Plus, you get the option to build your own pizza, pasta, waffles, or soft serve if you’d rather take the wheel yourself. We went in to see if the food holds up to the theatre.

What We Ate

The Parmesan Chicken comes in crispy, drizzled with hot honey that adds a glossy sheen and a mild kick, with parmesan scattered generously over the top. The flavours are working well here. Expect sweet, savoury, and just a little spicy, though the chicken itself ran a touch dry. The hot honey and cheese do enough heavy lifting that it’s still worth ordering.

The Tuscan Truffle Sandwich is well composed with a generous amount of burrata and creamy truffle sauce. The loaded mushrooms in the sandwich are the showstopper.  But the real surprise is what comes alongside it. The herb-flecked fries stay crispy long after they hit the table, instead of going soft.

Then came the Half & Half Pizza, split cleanly down the middle with a neat dough line separating the two flavours a small detail, but one that says a lot about the kitchen’s attention to craft. One half is Tuscan Chicken, and it’s the clear winner. A pesto-forward dish with tender, juicy chicken and a tomato sauce that cuts through the herbiness instead of getting buried under it. The other half is Barbecued Veggie, loaded with olives, mushrooms and more, finished with a generous drizzle of barbecue sauce that’s smoky without overpowering the vegetables underneath.

Dessert is where tbsp. really pulls ahead. The Hot Chocolate Mousse tastes like someone took a drinking hot chocolate and turned it into a soft lava cake, finished with sea salt flakes and dark chocolate, the kind of dessert you could eat with a literal tablespoon and not feel like you’re overdoing it. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch Soft Serve, which might just be the best soft serve we’ve had in a while. The crunch of the cinnamon toast bits against the rich creaminess of the ice cream, topped with a caramel swirl, makes for a dessert that’s creative.

What We Sipped

The Lime Cola is exactly what a soda should be: the crispness of cola meeting refreshing, citrussy lime, with neither one drowning out the other.

The Vanilla Cream Soda is the more indulgent of the two, tasting like an ice cream float that’s been merged into a soda rather than served next to one. It’s creamy, fizzy, and feels like a dessert and a drink rolled into one.

The Verdict

tbsp.’s Mumbai debut delivers exactly what it promises. A warm, kitchen-forward dining experience anchored by wood-fired pizza and handmade pasta, with enough playful extras to keep things interesting. The Tuscan Chicken half of the pizza and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch soft serve are the two dishes worth going back for. If you’re in Lower Parel and want to watch your pizza come together while you wait, this one’s worth the visit.
