Kamiya Jani On The Milestone

With this, Kamiya Jani becomes the second YouTuber in India to be onboarded by Netflix for her original show. And the only female YouTuber to have her own show on Netflix. CurlyTales’ Sunday Brunch debuts on Netflix on Oct 4
Kamiya Jani, Editor-in-Chief and Founder of Curly Tales, says,
“Sunday Brunch for me is an OG show that broke all set templates around celebrity interviews. At the time we started, celebrity interviews revolved around films and roles portrayed by actors. I think somewhere around Sunday Brunch changed that for the digital landscape, and it is only fair that after having delivered over 300 episodes, the show has finally got a global platform like Netflix to justify its popularity.”
She shares about the journey,
“When we started, celebrity interviews were largely centred around their films, characters and upcoming projects. We wanted to do something completely different. Instead of sitting across a table with a list of questions, I wanted to sit down with people, share a meal, talk about food, life and everything in between, and catch celebs in those unscripted, unguarded moments. That simple idea ended up breaking many of the traditional templates of celebrity interviews and, over time, became a format that has become increasingly familiar across the digital landscape. To see something we created from such a simple, human idea become a part of the way audiences now experience celebrity conversations is incredibly fulfilling.”
Elaborating on the Netflix milestone, Kamiya reveals,
“After nearly 250 episodes of Sunday Brunch, seeing the show find a global platform like Netflix feels incredibly special. What makes me happiest is that we never had to change the essence of the show to make it bigger. It was always about sitting across the table, sharing a meal, and getting to know the person behind the celebrity. For me, this is not just about taking Sunday Brunch to a larger audience; it is about seeing a format we believed in from the beginning travel from Mumbai to audiences across the world. And after this journey, that feels like a very special full-circle moment.”
Sammar Verma On The Netflix Deal
Sammar Verma, Group CEO & Founder of Fork Media Group shares,
“As Fork Media Group (FMG), we were one of the first ones to have envisioned YouTube as being no less than an OTT. Hence, very early in the day, we moved to IP-led structured programming across 6 of our channels, focusing heavily on quality and consumer promise. While the world echoed that raw and unfiltered is the way to be, we always believed that high-quality content would find its own audience within the ocean of content YouTube caters to. The step up to Netflix is a true testimony to this belief. With Netflix, we will have global audiences discovering our brand and our content, and that’s a massive win for us.”
