There are certain features of McDonald’s that have become part of its identity, and one of them is the self-serve soda machines. It has almost felt like a routine for customers to walk into McDonald’s, fill their cold drinks, and sometimes even go back for refills. However, this long-running tradition is now set to change, as the fast-food chain is removing this facility across all its US outlets. Read to know!
McDonald’s To Remove Self-Serve Soda Machines Across The US
In the US, self-serve soda machines have been part of most McDonald’s outlets, but things are about to change. The brand is now removing these machines, although the shift will not happen immediately. As per NDTV, the company plans to fully remove self-serve drink stations from all its US outlets by 2032. This change will take place gradually as restaurants are renovated or redesigned.
In many locations, the process has already begun. Once the system is removed, staff members will serve all beverages from behind the counter instead of customers helping themselves. The company has taken this decision to reduce maintenance work and improve control over drink portions and cleanliness.
Another reason behind this shift is the changing way people eat and order food. More customers now prefer drive-thru, takeaway, and delivery instead of dining inside restaurants.

This new range includes fruit-flavoured refreshers and customised soft drinks. The menu will feature six new drinks in total. Three of them are refreshers made using freeze-dried fruit and boba. The other three are creative versions of classic sodas with flavoured syrups and cold foam toppings.
