According to the warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department or IMD, Cyclone Remal will impact the Northeastern regions as well as Bangladesh. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about Cyclone Remal.

1. Kolkata Airport Temporarily Shuts Operations

Kolkata has been witnessing rainy weather since the arrival of Cyclone Remal. If reports are to go by, the cyclone will make landfall today at midnight. The landfall will be near Bangladesh and West Bengal. Owing to the cyclone, all flight operations from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport or CCU have been cancelled.

2. 14 NDRF Teams Have Been Deployed So Far To Provide Relief

According to the updates recently shared by livemint, a total of 14 teams from the National Disaster Relief Force or NDRF have been deployed to South Bengal as of now. The cyclone is not expected to be worse than super cyclone Amphan, however, winds can reach a sustainable speed of 120 to 130 kilometres per hour.

3. What Does Remal Mean And What Parts Will It Impact?

Remal in Arabic means sand and the name for the cyclone was suggested by the Sultanate of Oman. Cyclone Remal will impact West Bengal, Tripura, Northeastern states and Coastal Bangladesh. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in the regions where its impact will be the most severe.
