Cyprus, the gorgeous Mediterranean country has just reopened its borders to tourism and in a bid to attract foreign travellers has declared that if a visitor contracts COVID-19 during their stay in the country, the government will cover food, travel & stay of the visitor and their families for the entire duration. This news comes in after Cyprus officially declared itself COVID-19 free with zero infected cases.

Cyprus To Offer Free Travel To Visitors

COVID-19 infected more than just human lives. It shut down industries, countries sealed their homes & borders & it essentially caused huge losses to tourism. One such country to shut its borders down was an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean called the Republic Of Cyprus. They are planning to open the country for summer tourism to visitors from a certain approved country list So far 19 countries with low COVID rate have been approved. Flights are expected to resume in the country from June 9th & the lockdown was just recently lifted for its own citizens. Cyprus has also opened up most of its tourist spots and beaches for the local residents. So what happens if an outsider contracts COVID-19 in the country? Well, the government will cover food, travel & stay of the visitor and their families for the entire duration. Here’s what all will happen:

1. Lodging, food, drink, and medicine for both the visitors that contract coronavirus as well as their families will be covered by the government
2. Those infected will be put up in a foreigners-only hotel, that will have a capacity of about 100 beds
3. The families of those infected will be put up in a “quarantine hotel” with 500 rooms
4. Visitors will only have to pay for their return flight ticket & the taxi ride to the airport. The Cypriot government will take care of everything else.

In order to be eligible for the free stay, these are the requirements from the visitors:

1. Travellers visiting the country will have to show certification of being COVID negative
2. They will have to go through thermal screening upon arrival
3. They will have to fill out a “COVID-19 Traveler Declaration” form which states that they have not come in contact with an infected person through their travels and that they have not been feeling unwell through their travels.
4. Visitors will also be subject to random temperature checks, at no cost to the traveler.

Well guys, pack your bags and keep because once our lockdown is lifted, its safe to travel, Cyprus adds India to their approved country list… oh, never mind!
