Sudden rainfall in Delhi NCR last evening caused the diversion of a total of 15 flights. Due to the onset of heavy rain earlier in the evening on April 23, many flights coming to Delhi were forced to divert to Jaipur, Amritsar, and Lucknow. Thankfully, the weather cleared around 7 PM, and flight schedules were streamlined as per the timetable.

This unanticipated weather shift caused airlines to divert flights to ensure passenger safety. All major airlines like Vistara, IndiGo, and SpiceJet were forced to divert their flights coming to Delhi. They took to social media to post this update. As per reports, nine flights were rerouted to Jaipur, two of them to Amritsar, two to Lucknow, one to Mumbai, and one to Chandigarh.

The sudden rainfall in Delhi NCR yesterday was accompanied by high-speed winds. This not only disrupted flight schedules but also caused heavy congestion in various parts of the city. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heavy rainfall in Delhi brought down the maximum temperature in the city to 36.8°C. This is slightly below the usual maximum temperature in Delhi in April. The winds also helped bring relief from the hot weather.

It is also to be noted that rain struck several parts of Northern India yesterday and hampered the flight schedule of Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport. This caused several Vistara flights scheduled for yesterday morning to be diverted to Delhi.
