Delhi is growing! No, we’re not just talking about rapid development but also the rising population. With lakhs of people travelling daily, the demand for better public transport has increased too. Understanding this, the Delhi government has announced a massive metro expansion plan worth more than ₹18,000 crore. Read on to know more about this project!

Delhi Government Announces Metro Expansion Project

Delhi Chief Minister took to her social media handle to drop the update on the ₹18,000 crore metro expansion plan. This metro expansion will connect North, East, South, and Outer Delhi along with important areas like Central Vista, Airport, Narela-Najafgarh, and Mayur Vihar. This plan has been introduced to make travel easier for the commuters who depend on the Delhi Metro. 

With this project, the government is expecting to bring major relief to commuters. People travelling to offices, colleges, markets, or the airport will spend less time worrying about road transport and traffic. Many routes will become more direct, reducing the need for multiple interchanges.

About Kirti Nagar–Palam Corridor 

With the new expansion plan, the Delhi government is also planning the ₹6,200 crore Kirti Nagar–Palam metro corridor. As per The Financial Express, this new metro corridor will improve travel between West and South-West Delhi. Another major part of the development is Delhi Metro Phase 5B, which has now received approval. Under this phase, the city will get more than 97 km of new metro lines and 65 new stations spread across seven important routes.

The approved routes include Dhansa Bus Stand to Nangloi, covering 11.86 km with 9 stations, Central Secretariat to Kishangarh, stretching 15.97 km with 10 stations, and Samaypur Badli to Narela, covering 12.89 km with 8 stations. Other planned corridors include Kirti Nagar to Palam with 6 stations, Jor Bagh to Mithapur with 12 stations, Shastri Park to Mayur Vihar Phase III with 8 stations, and Keshavpuram to Rohini Sector 34 with 12 stations.
